30-DAY BLOGGING CHALLENGE
DAY 16: A SONG THAT MAKES YOU CRY

The first song that came to mind to today’s topic is On The Side of Me by Corrinne May. I first heard this on the radio, I didn’t  know its title and whoever sang it, so when I got home from school, I looked for it by typing “on the side of me” in the search engine. I was still in college then.

There was a time, during my on-the-job training days, when I had this song on-loop. With all honesty, it brings me to tears every single time. I am reminded by my mother and a few close friends whenever I hear this song. Without further ado, I will leave you to its music, and I hope you dedicate this to the people who remained with you even at your lowest point in life:

I’m not the easiest person to love
I’m often the one who lets things go unresolved

Yet you choose to be
On the side of me
On the side of me
Yet you choose to be on the side of me
On the side of me

I’m not too proud of some things
I’ve done in my life
The skeletons in my closet
Are too big for me to hide

Yet you choose to be
On the side of me
On the side of me
Blessed Charity
You’re on the side of me
On the side of me

‘Cause everyone needs a friend to hold
When it’s cold outside
And there’s no place to go
Everyone needs a friend to hold
All alone I cried
There was no place to go
I remember when nobody cared
But you

I’m not the easiest person to love
But you, you’ve opened your heart to show me what I’m worth

‘Cause you choose to be
On the side of me
On the side of me
What a mystery
You’re on the side of me
On the side of me

‘Cause everyone needs a friend to hold
When it’s cold outside
And there’s no place to go
Everyone needs a friend to hold
All alone I cried
There was no place to go

I remember when nobody cared
I remember when nobody cared
Nobody cared
But you…

Yeah you choose to be
On the side of me
On the side of me

This is my current last song syndrome (LSS). I’ve been hearing this track on the radio for weeks now, and it gets me every time. Posting this as my SOTD because I find it relevant. Enjoy! ;)

And I came home
Like a stone
And I fell heavy into your arms
These days of darkness
Which we’ve known
Will blow away with this new sun

And I’ll kneel down
Wait for now
And I’ll kneel down
Know my ground

And I will wait, I will wait for you
And I will wait, I will wait for you

So break my step
And relent
You forgave and I won’t forget
Know what we’ve seen
And him with less
Now in some way
Shake the excess

But I will wait, I will wait for you
And I will wait, I will wait for you
And I will wait, I will wait for you
And I will wait, I will wait for you

So I’ll be bold
As well as strong
And use my head alongside my heart
So tame my flesh
And fix my eyes
That tethered mind free from the lies

But I’ll kneel down
Wait for now
I’ll kneel down
Know my ground

Raise my hands
Paint my spirit gold
And bow my head
Keep my heart slow

Cause I will wait, I will wait for you
And I will wait, I will wait for you
And I will wait, I will wait for you
And I will wait, I will wait for you

Heard this on the radio early this morning, and I thought the melody is catchy; so does its lyrics. I’m trying to think of a memory that I can associate with this song, but to no avail. Sharing with you a video (not the official music video though) and its lyrics. Have a good day!

Oh, how I’ve tried to get you out of my head.
And I lie broken in words I said…
Never thought I’d walk on this street again.
Standing where it all began.

Tried to forget when I left this town…
But it takes me right back when I come back around.

Retrace the steps we took on that long summer night.
I’m back there by your side.
Retrace the steps we took when we met worlds away.
Counting backwards while the stars are falling.

Oh, how I find, every subtle thing screams your name.
It reminds me of places and times we’ve shared.
Couldn’t live locked in these memories.
Now I’m chained to my thoughts again.

And I tried to forget when I left this town…
But I’ll take you right back if you come back around.

Retrace the steps we took on that long summer night.
I’m back there by your side.
Retrace the steps we took when we met worlds away.
Counting backwards while the stars are falling.

I need some shelter. I need some safety.
Photographs, they haunt me lately.
Chasing shadows as the evening takes me.
I’m still searching, but the pictures fading.

Retrace the steps we took on that long summer night.
I’m there by your side.
Retrace the steps we took when we met worlds away.
Counting backwards. Still counting backwards.

And no where else has ever felt like home.
And I can’t fall asleep when i’m lying here alone.
I replay your voice, it’s like you’re here.
You move the earth, but now the sky is falling.

Retrace the steps we took on that long summer night.
In my mind, I’m back by your side.
Retrace the steps we took when we met worlds away.
Counting backwards while the stars are falling.

As always, my song of the day depends on an interesting track I heard on my way to work. This morning, however, I wasn’t able to catch the beginning of this song, but its chorus stuck in my head:

Do you feel like a man, when you push her around?
Do you feel better now as she falls to the ground?
Well, I’ll tell you my friend, one day this world’s going to end
As your lies crumble down, a new life she has found

It’s something, isn’t it? Although I don’t know its title nor who sang it, the song already made an impact to me that I had to look the details up right away. The track’s message is simple, yet straightforward: WOMEN ARE MEANT TO BE LOVED, NOT HURT. Just because Eve was created from Adam’s rib, doesn’t mean he gets the upper-hand in EVERYTHING.

I know I sound so much like a feminist, but seriously, men should learn to appreciate women as much as the latter adores them. Submitting oneself to a man is one thing, forcing a woman into doing something she doesn’t approve of is another.

Watch/listen/read below to understand what I mean. Enjoy!

Hey girl, you know, you drive me crazy
One look puts the rhythm in my hand
Still I’ll never understand why you hang around
I see what’s goin’ down

Cover up with make up in the mirror
Tell yourself it’s never gonna happen again
You cry alone and then he swears he loves you

Do you feel like a man, when you push her around?
Do you feel better now as she falls to the ground?
Well, I’ll tell you my friend, one day this world’s going to end
As your lies crumble down, a new life she has found

A pebble in the water makes a ripple effect
Every action in this world will bear a consequence
If you wade around forever you will surely drown
I see what’s going down

I see the way you go and say you’re right again
Say you’re right again, heed my lecture

Do you feel like a man, when you push her around?
Do you feel better now as she falls to the ground?
Well, I’ll tell you my friend, one day this world’s going to end
As your lies crumble down, a new life she has found

Face down in the dirt she said, “This doesn’t hurt”
She said, “I finally had enough”
Face down in the dirt she said, “This doesn’t hurt”
She said, “I finally had enough”

One day she will tell you that she has had enough
It’s coming round again

Do you feel like a man, when you push her around?
Do you feel better now as she falls to the ground?
Well, I’ll tell you my friend, one day this world’s going to end
As your lies crumble down, a new life she has found

Do you feel like a man, when you push her around?
Do you feel better now as she falls to the ground?
Well, I’ll tell you my friend, one day this world’s going to end
As your lies crumble down, a new life she has found

Face down in the dirt she says, “This doesn’t hurt”
She says, “I finally had enough”

I’ve been tuning in to Jam 88.3 all day for months now. I got bored with the previous radio station I used to listen to that I thought I needed something new. Jam 88.3′s slogan, New Music Alternative, seems to have caught my attention. To be honest, I wasn’t that much familiar with the tracks they play, but there’s something about their playlist [and DJs] that got me hooked with the frequency.

I used to tune in to The Rebel Circus with Scotty Crawford, Sasha, and Show Suzuki; however, this show was replaced with a new one in June, The Morning Breath with Julz and Harry. Since then, I seldom channel-surfed unless I don’t really like the song playing on Jam 88.3 or I’m just annoyed by a certain radio commercial.

Julz, whom I have written about last month, would best describe a Jack of all trades, Master of None. Not only does she do radio, she happens to be a video jock of MYX, too! While you’re at it, she does modelling on the side and even performs with a band, Save Me Hollywood! At 20, I’m sure this kid will go places. She exudes so much passion in her craft, using it wisely to fuel her burning desire to become someone someday. Let me share with you their latest single, Reckless, which I found myself singing to for days now:

The time has come
We’re breaking in
The real world waits
To shed our skin
And our teenage crimes
We’ll leave behind
Mistakes we’ve made
We won’t go-
Back for tomorrow when we’ve got today
We’re packing up our sorrow, tomorrow can wait
Say hurray, hurray! For the past we cling to
Today, today! We’ve got more to sing to
I’m the kid your parents told you not to become
But life’s too short to live it in fear of

If it’s for us, who can be against us?
We are the hope and the future
The promised ones with everything to prove
And with this plan written in our hands
We are the hope and the future
The promised ones with nothing else to lose

This is as good as it gets, your time is of the essence
Day by day, but you’re not getting younger
You’re on both sides of your fate
But dear, we’ll find an escape
Living fast, dying younger- you’re not
Not getting younger but it’s okay
So hold back your tears darling
All that can wait

The promised ones, we don’t know what to do
(Set your mind and your heart to anything that you do,
take my hand, this is yours, and you’ve got nothing to
lose)
The promised ones, we don’t know what to do
(Set your mind and your heart to anything that you do,
take my hand, this is yours, and you’ve got nothing to
lose)
The promised ones, we don’t know what to do
(Set your mind and your heart to anything that you do,
take my hand, this is yours, you’ve got your whole life to)

Young and we’re reckless
Bored and we’re selfish
Sick and tired of
Young and we’re reckless
Bored and we’re selfish
Sick and tired of

I think music in itself is healing. It’s an explosive expression of humanity. It’s something we are all touched by. No matter what culture we’re from, everyone loves music.

Friday has got to be my most favorite day of the week. I mean, who doesn’t? Everyone seems to be on a high on this day; there’s a thick air of anticipation for the weekend. On Fridays, we get to wear casual clothes—shirt, jeans, and sneakers—at work. The people around you seem to be nicer than they usually are, perhaps an effect that’s so contagious you wouldn’t miss taking in.

These are only a few among the long list of songs I play on loop every Friday at work. This playlist takes me to a time and place where memories were built. Each one of these songs either reminds me of a certain childhood memory or hit me with its beautiful lyrics or melody. I’m pretty sure most of you can relate to me on this one.

So, what makes up your own Friday Music Playlist? I’d love to hear yours, too!

Hello there the angel from my nightmare

The shadow in the background of the morgue
The unsuspecting victim of darkness in the valley
We can live like Jack and Sally if we want
Where you can always find me
And we’ll have Halloween on Christmas
And in the night we’ll wish this never ends
We’ll wish this never ends

(I miss you I miss you)
(I miss you I miss you)

Where are you and I’m so sorry
I cannot sleep I cannot dream tonight
I need somebody and always
This sick strange darkness
Comes creeping on so haunting every time
And as I stared I counted
The Webs from all the spiders
Catching things and eating their insides
Like indecision to call you
and hear your voice of treason
Will you come home and stop the pain tonight
Stop this pain tonight

Don’t waste your time on me you’re already
The voice inside my head (I miss you miss you)
Don’t waste your time on me you’re already
The voice inside my head (I miss you miss you)

Don’t waste your time on me you’re already
The voice inside my head (I miss you miss you)
Don’t waste your time on me you’re already
The voice inside my head (I miss you miss you)
Don’t waste your time on me you’re already
The voice inside my head (I miss you miss you)
Don’t waste your time on me you’re already
The voice inside my head (I miss you miss you)

I miss you (miss you miss you)
(I miss you miss you)

To see you when I wake up
Is a gift I didn’t think could be real.
To know that you feel the same as I do
Is a three-fold, Utopian dream.

You do something to me that I can’t explain.
So would I be out of line if I said “I miss you”?

I see your picture.
I smell your skin on
The empty pillow next to mine.
You have only been gone ten days,
But already I’m wasting away.
I know I’ll see you again
Whether far or soon.
But I need you to know that I care,
And I miss you.
